"The Lilly Library at Indiana University is one of the best facilities in the world to satisfy your curiosity, whether you are conducting academic research or exploring a new interest in a special subject area.

Located in the heart of IU’s Bloomington campus, the library attracts a wide range of visitors, from students intrigued by our exhibits on topics such as Orson Welles’ films or comic book heroes to world-renowned researchers seeking that one-of-a-kind book or manuscript only the Lilly Library can offer."

The Lilly is open from 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM Monday through Friday, and from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM on Saturdays. There is no need to make a special appoint to view their general galleries, but advanced appointments are necessary to view their special collections archives, which range from a lock of Sylvia Plath's hair (seriously!) to Ngũgĩ wa Thiong'o's first draft of Devil on the Cross, the novel famously written on prison toilet paper during Ngũgĩ's incarceration in a Kenyan maximum-security prison.

The diverse collections in our care relate to dynamic societies from around the world and contain over five million objects of cultural heritage and archaeological significance.

The Museum tells the human stories behind these objects and uplifts the source and descendant communities that are connected to them, providing a gateway to the rich cultural heritage of humanity – right from the heart of IU Bloomington’s campus."

IUMAA is open from 10:00 AM to 5:30 PM Tuesday through Saturday.
